It was exciting to finally put the molds on the strongback.  I could start to see the outline of a canoe at this point

This was a crucial point of installing the molds as they had to be completely squared and centered on the strongback.  Variances of an eighth of an inch could potentially affect the shape of the canoe

At this stage, a strip of cedar if nailed onto the mold to center and stabilize each mold.  It will be removed after several strips are placed on the mold.

After a short but interesting lesson on using the spokeshave, I set out trimming the outer stem to accommodate the strips.  The strips must lay flush with the outer stem.  This was not as easy as it looks because I was nervous I would trim too much off.  Fortunately, I did ok.
