The oak transom is glued up from 1" stock and run through a wide belt sander after the glue is set.

After cutting on the bandsaw, the edges are sanded to the line and the transom gets a rabbit to accept the strips on the shaper.

The transom is also the final station mold and is held in the correct position using the two uprights on the strongback

With the keelson steamed and bent to the molds, David fastens it in place and plugs the screw-hole.

The inner stem is aligned with the midline and clamped to the mold. Then it is shaped and faired ready for the strips.

Each strip is chosen for colour and grain and paired up with a matching piece. The hull takes 40 pairs so David was busy for awhile setting out and marking the sequence of strips and patterns for the whole boat.

The first strip is painstakingly fastened to follow the sheerline. All the other strips will follow its contours to shape the boat and the wood pattern.

Using a dental syringe, a thin bead of glue is distributed into the cove of each strip just before the layer above is set in place.

And so it goes, strip on strip, the boat grows. Staples act as clamps until the glue sets.
